Access Information

Accessibility at Glenarm Castle & Garden

At Glenarm Castle & Garden, we are committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive experience for all visitors. As a historic and working estate, some areas present natural challenges, but we are continually working to improve access and provide support wherever possible.

Below you’ll find details to help you plan your visit.

Planning Ahead

If you or someone in your group has specific access needs, we strongly encourage you to contact our Welcome Centre in advance. Our team will be happy to discuss arrangements and ensure everything possible is in place to make your visit smooth and enjoyable.

We also welcome feedback, as it helps us continue improving accessibility across the Estate.

Parking

Disabled parking spaces are available in:

  • Our main car park
  • A smaller car park beside the Tea Room for easier access

Carer Tickets

Visitors who are exploring the Walled Garden or taking part in a Castle Tour with a carer can receive a carer ticket at 50% off the standard adult price.

Please arrange this in advance. Proof of eligibility is required and can be emailed ahead of your visit or shown on arrival. Accepted forms of proof include:

  • Health and Social Care Trust Carer ID Card
  • Blue Badge
  • Freedom Pass
  • DLA letter
  • PIP letter

Getting Around the Estate

Many areas of Glenarm Castle & Garden are step-free or have sloped access, including:

  • The Retail Quarter
  • The Walled Garden
  • The Woodland Walk
  • The path to the Mini Land Rover Experience

As this is a working estate, some paths are gravelled or grassy and may be uneven or weather-dependent. These surfaces may not be suitable for all mobility needs at all times.

Castle Access

There are four steps at the main Castle entrance and exit. A portable ramp is available – please let us know in advance if this is required so we can have it ready for your visit.

Accessible Toilets

Disabled-friendly toilets are located at:

  • The Welcome Centre
  • The Tea Room
  • The Walled Garden

Seating

Benches are placed throughout the Estate and Garden for visitors who may need to rest during their visit.

Spacious Indoor Areas

We aim to keep walkways in our Retail Quarter and food outlets wide enough for wheelchair and mobility scooter users.

In the Tea Room, tables and chairs are not fixed in place. Staff are happy to rearrange seating or remove chairs to create additional space.

Mobility Equipment

A wheelchair and mobility scooter are available to borrow on site. Conditions apply, so it is essential to enquire and arrange this in advance of your visit.

Guide Dogs

Guide dogs are welcome throughout Glenarm Castle & Garden.

We also offer complimentary access to the Dog Park between 9:00am and 10:00am daily, providing a safe, enclosed space for guide dogs to explore. Please book this in advance with our Welcome Centre team.

Additional Assistance & Group Visits

If you require further assistance, or are planning a group visit for guests with additional access needs, we are very happy to work with you to make suitable arrangements.

Please contact our Welcome Centre team to discuss your visit in advance.

We look forward to welcoming you to Glenarm Castle & Garden.

At Glenarm Castle, we are committed to providing an accessible attraction for all and try to ensure everyone can enjoy their visit with us. If you have any questions, or to arrange any additional support for your visit, please email welcome@glenarmcastle.com or call us on 028 28841 203

Wheelchair and Mobility Scooter Accessibility

Where possible we make provisions to ensure the site is accessible for wheelchair, mobility scooter and buggy users. Please note car parks and some paths within the grounds are gravel therefore wheelchairs and pushchairs may find it difficult. If you require additional assistance, please ask a member of staff. Disabled toilets are located in the Walled Garden, Tea Room and at the end of the Welcome Centre building.

Wheelchair and buggy access is available at the turnstile located within the foyer of the Tea Room. If you require assistance at this turnstile please use the intercom provided to ring the welcome centre for assistance.

Level Access

There is level and step-free access to most outdoor areas and indoor venues. However should you need any further assistance, please ask a member of staff. Due to the historic nature of our site some areas within the Walled Garden and the Woodland Walk feature uneven terrain therefore suitable footwear should be worn.

Dogs

We are delighted to now be welcoming dogs to our Walled Garden and Woodland Walk, as well as other outdoor areas on the estate. We also have one dog friendly Ocean View Pod. We would kindly ask that dogs are kept on a short lead at all times and that owners are respectful of other visitors and our estate, using the designated bins across the site.

Dogs are not permitted in our indoor venues including shops, or within our Mini Land Rover course.

Baby Changing Facilities

Baby changing facilities are located at the end of the Welcome Centre building, in the Tea Room and within the main Courtyard located behind The Milk Parlour.

Blue Badge Holders

We have a number of wheelchair and buggy access points and dedicated parking areas for blue badge holders.

School Groups

If visiting as part of a school group, our team makes excellent provision for children with special needs. Schools are requested to contact the Welcome Centre in advance on 028 28841 203

Special Events

Some of our large events at Glenarm Castle do require us to make changes to the accessible routes, but we always strive to continue to cater for those with access needs during these times.
