The Stable Yard: From Carriages to Cars

Come and see a spectacular display of rare vehicles from Glenarm’s collection.

Until the early 20^th century, Glenarm Castle’s stable of horses and ponies were used for the family and estate’s every transport need and the 5^th Earl of Antrim also kept a string of racehorses at Glenarm, training them on purpose-built gallops. 

The 11th Earl William, and his wife Louisa, were enthusiastic motorists and as the internal combustion engine began to replace horsepower, the stables were adapted to house the family’s cars.

The McDonnell family’s love of motoring continued with the 14^th Earl Alexander’s collection of vintage motor cars, a passion shared by his son Randal, the current Lord Antrim.
